BYOK setup guide

How to set up Bring Your Own Keys in Hypertxt

The BYOK plan gives you lifetime access to Hypertxt's workspace and workflows, while generation and provider-backed data run through your own provider accounts.

What is required

Connect at least one generation provider

A BYOK project will not use Hypertxt's hosted AI keys. Add at least one generation key in Settings before running article generation.

OpenAI API key

Use this if you want broad model coverage and a simple first setup. An OpenAI key can power generation when your BYOK project routes work to OpenAI models.

Open provider console

Anthropic API key

Use this if you want Claude-backed writing quality. For premium Opus generation, your Anthropic account must have access to the Opus model family.

These keys are not required to write an article, but they improve workflows that depend on source research or keyword metrics.

Setup steps

Where to add your keys

Keys are saved in your account Settings. You can rotate or revoke the underlying provider keys from the provider dashboard whenever you need to.

  1. 01 Create or open your BYOK account in Hypertxt.
  2. 02 Open Settings, then expand AI provider keys.
  3. 03 Choose the provider you want to connect.
  4. 04 Paste the API key or provider credentials.
  5. 05 Save the key and return to your project setup or article workflow.

Model recommendations

Which provider should you start with?

You do not need to choose an exact model inside Hypertxt for normal setup. Hypertxt routes work by provider and workflow stage. The practical choice is which provider account you connect first.

Best article quality

Start with an Anthropic key that has Claude Opus access. Hypertxt's premium BYOK path is designed around account-owned Opus access for long-form article generation.

Fastest general setup

Start with an OpenAI key if you want the simplest path to running generation. You can add Anthropic later if you want premium Claude/Opus output.

Best keyword workflow

Add DataForSEO or Keywords Everywhere if you care about provider-backed search metrics. Without one, Hypertxt can still generate keyword ideas, but unavailable metrics are left empty instead of invented.

Best research workflow

Add Exa if you want research-enriched article workflows that can pull source context before drafting.

Security and billing boundary

Hypertxt stores the connection. Your provider account handles usage.

Provider keys are stored encrypted. Your OpenAI, Anthropic, Exa, DataForSEO, and Keywords Everywhere accounts remain responsible for provider usage, rate limits, model access, and billing. BYOK projects use your account keys only, with no hosted-key fallback.

Turn search signals into AI-citable content.

Sync opportunities, create research briefs, review citation-ready drafts, and publish to the channels you already use. Test one article for $1, then upgrade only if the workflow fits.
